Common questions about COR and SECOR
What is the difference between COR and SECOR?
SECOR is the Small Employer Certificate of Recognition, for businesses with up to 10 employees, and it is based on a self-assessment your Certifying Partner reviews. COR is for businesses with 10 or more employees, and it requires an external auditor.
If you started on SECOR and your crew has grown past 10, there is a transition path to a full COR.
What score do you need to pass a COR audit in Alberta?
You need at least 80 percent overall, and a minimum of 50 percent in every audit element.
The element minimum is what catches most companies. A strong overall score still fails if one element is weak, which is usually the part we spend the most time on before an audit.
Is a COR or SECOR worth getting?
It depends on who you want to work for. Many operators in the Peace Country will not let a contractor bid without one, so for those companies it is not optional.
